THE MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTIC OF AN ELITE ATHLETE
I asked a group of athletes what they thought might be THE most important characteristic for an elite athlete. Responses included:
* Self confidence
* Personal Power
* Belief in themselves
* Be coachable
* Mental toughness
I don’t think it is any of these. I think the most important characteristic is Inner Peace. All of the 15 characteristics above are a result of the peace we feel inside.
An elite athlete needs to be at the effect of themselves and not affected by any outside force including other athletes, the audience, the media, and all the other distractions that can pull an athlete off their performance.
It is so easy to be distracted and impacted by all that happens in a competition. So easy to lose focus, confidence, and determination.
When one is at peace with themselves, they can handle anything that happens with grace and maturity. All that they are is possessed within the Inner Peace. The drive, competitiveness, and belief in themselves is present.
The athlete IS rather than trying to DO. Doing is “trying” which means it isn’t. Doing is a verb. “Is” is a noun. It already IS.
Guess another way to think of this: Trying to be a Champion or You are a Champion.
How does an athlete be their inner peace? By removing and deleting all that which keeps them from being at peace.
